Abortion Unwanted Pregnancy Termination
Abortion Unwanted Pregnancy Termination
Every child should be a wanted child, but unfortunately, there are times when a pregnancy may not be wanted. In such situations, seeking an abortion may be necessary. However, it is important to note that abortion is legal only when carried out with legal permits. It can be done up to 20 weeks into pregnancy.
According to the Abortion Act, doctors can agree to an abortion if they believe that continuing with the pregnancy would pose a greater risk to the physical or mental health of the woman than terminating it. Additionally, if continuing with the pregnancy would pose a greater risk to the life of the woman or if any existing children of hers would suffer if the pregnancy continued, an abortion may be allowed. Finally, an abortion can also be allowed if there is a substantial risk that the child will be deformed or seriously handicapped.
- If one desires to terminate a pregnancy, it is important to seek an abortion as early as possible. The earlier it is done in the pregnancy, the safer it is. The method of termination will depend on the number of weeks of gestation.
- If the pregnancy is less than 7 weeks old, the abortion can be done with just tablets. These tablets are safe, effective, and have a success rate of more than 90%. The advantages are that the patient does not need any admission, anesthesia, or instrumentation of the uterus.
- If the pregnancy is between 7 and 12 weeks, then the abortion is a simple procedure done under an anesthetic in a daycare center certified for abortion services. The patient is able to go home in a few hours.
- If the pregnancy is between 12 and 20 weeks, the procedure is a little lengthier, and the patient may need to stay overnight in the hospital.
